Paralysis through information and excuses

We drown in fitness information and hide behind excuses. A Lee Kuan Yew line, the excuses we reach for, and two simple truths that cut through them.

“It is not the information that makes the difference, but better use of information through better judgment. We are not all equally gifted or talented. This will still be true in the information society.”

— Lee Kuan Yew

We drown in fitness information and then reach for reasons it doesn’t apply to us. The information isn’t the problem. The judgment — and the willingness to act on it — is.

The bullshit excuses we use for not getting to our goals:

  1. Insulin and hormone imbalances
  2. Terrible time management
  3. Genetics
  4. Body type and blood group
  5. High-fat diets, low-fat diets and everything in between
  6. Feelings — like the misplaced confidence of “knowing your body,” when your body plays by the same rules every other body has since homo sapiens have been around
  7. Not prioritising sleep

Two simple truths:

  1. Do what it takes to gain some muscle and strong bones and joints.
  2. Eat what it takes to support that effort.

You may want to be svelte and lean, or hulk-like and massive. But there’s no denying that muscle is what you’re after for either outcome.
